More Info About the Reno Tahoe Odyssey:

A scenic course like no other. Guided by the high mountain peaks of the Sierra Nevada. Running by mountain lakes, rivers and streams, including the one and only Lake Tahoe as well as the Truckee River. Running under the stars and past the neon of South Lake Tahoe’s casinos. Descending Kingsbury Grade looking down on the lights of the Carson Valley. Climbing the Comstock Highway into Virginia City, then dropping down Geiger Grade with an eyeful of Mount Rose. The scenery. The vistas. The blue waters and skies. The bright stars. The neon lights.

A mighty challenge. 178 miles divided into 36 legs of varying lengths and difficulty. Continuous running, starting one day and ending the next, until each runner has run 3 legs. A course that begins and ends at 4490 feet and reaches a maximum elevation of 7334. The high altitude. The crisp air.

Get close to history. You’ll run along the trails where the emigrants, including the infamous Donner Party, traveled to reach California. You’ll follow the tracks of the original transcontinental railroad into Truckee. You’ll travel along the Pony Express route. You’ll pass through Virginia City and neighboring ghost towns, where Comstock Lode silver mines roared, and miners and Mark Twain frequented many a saloon, some still open today to quench your thirst.

Fun and entertainment all around you. Both day time activities and night time action for you, your teammates and your families to enjoy. Come for the relay but stay for the week.

The convenience of finishing a long relay run where you began it, in Downtown Reno. Only minutes from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport and Interstate 80.

Time Trial On The Toughest Leg Of the Course. We have an individual competition in the middle of this team event.  Leg 4 is called Donner’s Downfall.  It is the longest and toughest on the course at 8 miles with the first six miles being uphill. This leg is also one of the most beautiful parts of the course.  Put your best runner in this spot in the rotation.  Then let’s find out who is the Fastest Man and Fastest Woman in the whole group.

Two good causes. Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation, Tahoe Pyramid Bikeway.  We promote these non-profit organizations who are doing good things, and we make sure that they get some money out of this event.”
